Nothing Phone (2) design
Back in June, the Nothing Phone (2) design was first leaked by Steve H.McFly/OnLeaks, a prominent smartphone leakster. Carl Pei, the founder and CEO of the company indirectly denied these reports. However, the official posters from the company do reaffirm the early leak, confirming the Phone (2)’s industrial design.
As per the leaks and official renders, the Phone (2) is indeed based on the Phone (1) with minor tweaks, which include a slightly curved frame, display with 2.5D curved glass protection, and even the Glyph lighting seems to have received minor upgrades, with more lighting zones.
Nothing also confirmed that the mid-frame on the Phone (2) is reduced by 1mm and the texture across the phone is said to have more depth and details, which has been achieved using a new injection moulding process. The device is said to launch in two colours — grey and white, a departure from the black and white variants of the Phone (1).
The design of the Phone (2) is said to be more symmetrical with grid matrix composition. While the earlier reports from OnLeaks suggested a display with a side punch hole, similar to the Phone (1), the Phone (2) has a centered punch hole display like most flagship Android smartphones of 2023. Besides these minor tweaks, the Phone (2) looks almost identical to Phone (1).
Nothing Phone (2) hardware and software
Even before announcing the launch date, the company confirmed that the Phone (2) will be based on the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC, a much-needed departure from the mid-range Snapdragon 778G+ chip on its predecessor. We can expect the Phone (2) to arrive in multiple storage variants, including the base model with 8 GB RAM and 128 GB internal storage, similar to the Phone (1). This time around, Nothing could announce Phone (2) in three storage variants — 128 GB, 256 GB, and 512 GB with 8 GB or 12 GB of RAM.
While the Nothing Phone (2) is said to include a 50 MP dual camera setup, a report by Kamila Wojciechowska suggests that the primary sensor on the Phone (2) will get an upgrade, and will use the Sony IMX890 sensor, identical to the OnePlus 11’s primary camera. The same report also suggests that the Phone (2) will also get a 32 MP selfie camera, which will be based on the Sony IMX615 sensor.
According to the same report, the 6.7-inch display on the Phone (2) will have a resolution of 1080×2412 with up to 120Hz refresh rate, and the phone is said to feature an optical in-display fingerprint sensor by Goodix.
The Phone (1) came with a 4,500 mAh battery and the Phone (2) is reported to pack a slightly large 4,700 mAh battery with support for fast wired charging, where, the device will ship with a complimentary Type-C data cable with translucent ends.
In terms of software, the Phone (2) is said to ship with the new NothingOS (2), based on Android 13 OS. Similarly, the phone will also come with a new Glyph composer, which will allow users to make custom ringtones using the Glyph lighting.
Nothing Phone (2) price
The Nothing Phone (1) was priced at around Rs 30,000 at launch, which then received a significant price reduction in just a few months. With a more powerful chip, the Phone (2) is speculated to cost around Rs 40,000, making it at least 30 per cent more expensive than the Phone (1).
